Elin Kolev

Elin Kolev was born on 17 December 1996 in Germany. He began his musical education on the violin at the age of 5 at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in the City of Zwickau. In 2006 he was admitted as an exceptionally gifted young student to the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy to study with Professor Carolin Widmann. Additionally, Elin studied master courses under Professors Dr. Friedemann Eichhorn, Thomas Brandis, Reiner Kussmaul and Igor Ozim.
Since 2010 Elin has studied as a gifted young student at the University for Music in Karlsruhe under Professor Josef Rissin.

When he was only eight years old Elin had his debut as a soloist with the Vogtland Philharmoic Orchestra Greiz - Reichenbach at the event Classics under the Stars. Here he inspired over 5,000 spectators. He gave many concerts playing in the Saxon area as well as in Brandenburg, Bavaria, Thuringia, Baden –Württemberg, Italy and Austria. In April und May of 2009 Elin next was off on his first US Tour through Virginia, New York, North Dakota und Arkansas. To promote his career he received his first master instrument of the NewStrad – family. At the age of 12 years the Violinist from Zwickau had his debut in New York’s Carnegie Hall. Outside of the concert halls Elin’s open-mindedness and his serious but unconventional demeanor have been presented on countless TV networks such as, RTL, ARD, MDR, Deutsche Welle TV Euromaxx, ZDF. He also participated in the ZDF Charity Gala Ein Herz für Kinder, among others. To date Elin has also worked together with conductors such including Stefan Fraas, Georg Christoph Sandmann, Jirí Malát, Daniel Lipton und Pavel Baleff.

Elin’s various interests and his many-sided talent helped him to get a leading role in the Film Wunderkinder which was produced by Artur und Dr. Alice Brauner. In October of 2010 he was selected as one out of 400 children for the role of the Jewish virtuoso violinist Abrascha. Elin Kolev practiced and played each musical piece in the role of the musical wonder child himself. Under the direction of Marcus O. Rosenmüller he filmed at the side of Kai Wiesinger, Catherine Flemming, Gudrun Landgrebe, Konstantin Wecker and many others. The film will be shown starting 6 Oktober 2011 in German movie theaters.

In 2011 Elin is going to be performing in front of the camera again. This time he portrays the violinist Bronislaw Huberman in the documentary film production Orchestra of Exiles --Bronislaw Huberman. The director is the American Oscar nominee Josh Aronson. Orchestra of Exiles is a German-Israeli co-production. The German Film Producer is Wieland Schulz-Keil.

The Film Bronislaw Huberman -- Orchestra of Exiles describes the dramatic developments surrounding Bronislaw Huberman, and follows the most famous violin virtuoso of his time from world famous Wunderkind to young man, who reacting to the shock of the First World War, finds his way to Pan-Europeanism and Pacifism, and finally through to saving Jewish musicians and the development of a Jewish Orchestra in Palestine, where he becomes a hero in the fight against National Socialism.

At the age of 14, Elin possesses great ease of playing the violin, through which he can master even the most difficult violin methods through his impressive demeanor and joyous talent. His technical maturity is demonstrated through sophisticated bowing methods and his precise sensitivity to changing tonality even down to the smallest detail, and also through his ability to think his way into the musical piece, and thereby to understand its mood.

His first solo concert in 2011 was a complete success. The 14 year old violinist presented demanding works of Maurice Ravel, César Franck and Antonio Vivaldi. The approximately 1000 concert-goers gave him a standing ovation at the end of the concert.

Since 2009 Elin has been supported by the Albert-Eckstein Foundation. The latter loaned Elin a violin by Lorenzo Carcassi of Florence, Italy from the year 1749.

In the Winter of 2012 he will give his debut at the Sommets Musicaux Festival de Gstaad in Switzerland, and with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra as a soloist with orchestral accompaniment.

2011 the rising violinist Elin Kolev was elected to be an Image Representative of the City of Zwickau. As recognition he received the IMAGE AWARD 2011, with which persons and organisations are honored, who have carried the image of the political subdivision of Zwickau beyond its borders.
